Arts & culture

Tokyo has more art, design and culture than you can shake a stick at, and I’ve been lucky enough to experience a fair slice of it. That goes from traditional arts and culture to contemporary art exhibitions and some of the more popular museums.

Art & Culture in Tokyo

Japan’s pop culture is huge abroad, and I delved into an understudied aspect of it by attending a class at Japan’s only mascot school. On the more traditional side, I’ve written about the history of maneki-neko lucky cats and the finer points of kimono, plus where to buy snazzy secondhand ones. I also became the go-to museum girl at Time Out Tokyo, writing up guides to the immensely popular teamLab Borderless Museum and the Yayoi Kusama Museum right after they opened, plus a guide on how to even get tickets for them in the first place.
